Holidays at B'nai Israel

Shavuot, the anniversary of receiving the Torah at Mount Sinai, begins at sundown on Saturday, June 8. Our congregational Tikkun Leyl Shavuot will begin with an abbreviated ma'ariv (evening) service on June 8 at 7 p.m. followed by a showing of the film Ballad of the Weeping Spring. This Israeli film has received awards for its beautiful soundtrack which includes Iranian folk melodies and original compositions by Mark Eliyahu. Torah study led by Rabbi Ted Feldman and desserts will follow.

Torah study on the eve of Shavuot is based on the practice begun by 16th-century kabbalists of Safed, Israel, under the leadership of Isaac Luria.

High Holidays

B’nai Israel Jewish Center is a warm and welcoming community. Our services offer an inspirational spiritual setting for families and individuals to experience these Days of Awe. Family services are integrated into our main service and childcare is available to facilitate parents participation in services. While tickets are not necessary, we appreciate donations to help strengthen our community (suggested donation: $150 for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur and $75 for one or the other).

Please email or call (707) 762-0340 for more information about our holiday services.
